NATIONAL HISTORY

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has supplied voice and vision to the struggle of African-Americans and people of color around the world since its founding over 100 years ago on December 4, 1906. Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans, was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York by seven college men who recognized the need for a strong bond of Brotherhood among African descendants in this country

The visionary founders, known as the “Jewels” of the Fraternity, are:

The Fraternity initially served as a study and support group for minority students who faced racial prejudice, both educationally and socially, at Cornell. The Jewel founders and early leaders of the Fraternity succeeded in laying a firm foundation for Alpha Phi Alpha’s principles of scholarship, fellowship, good character, and the uplifting of humanity.

CHAPTER HISTORY

The Omicron Rho Lambda Chapter was chartered March 21, 1987, as the first National Pan-Hellenic Council affiliated fraternity with a chapter in Vicksburg, MS by seventeen Brothers to foster the Alpha Spirit, scholarship, to promote the national and local initiatives and the objectives, and partner with other civic organizations for the good of the community of Vicksburg Warren County.

Today, the Omicron Rho Lambda Chapter continues to be a positive vessel of service to the Vicksburg Warren County community. The chapter has a reputation for being hardworking, persevering, educationally missioned focused, and lead in spirit that will continue to contribute to the legacy of the greatest inter-collegiate Greek-lettered fraternity ever established.
